How to import DFX or DWG or PDF

I have a plan in PDF.  I converted it to DFX and imported to Autocad ... looks fine.  Saved it as a DWG from Autocad.

Try to import CAD file in TFP 16.  Scale is messed up but finally got it so it was ! 65' wide and said import.  Click on teh screen and get error that the file has no geometry.

Tried object wizzard to import the DFX.  Go through everything and it is in appliances but that is OK.  Click on the screen and there is nothing there?

I've done it before but this does not work now.

Also, is there any way to get the original PDF directly or with some conversion into TFP?

Hi  Rex,

Why are you importing the file - to trace it? If so then you should be able to import a DXF through the Import Wizard, which should then just appear in the model on the end of the cursor for you to click into place, normally in the centre of the terrain.

It does not actually go into Appliances (or whatever category you choose during import) unless you tell it later to add to the catalogue. Normally a  trace DXF would be a once only situation, so you would not need it in the catalogue.
If it was saved correctly in AutoCAD then the DXF would automatically be to the correct scale.

There is no way to import a PDF but if you convert it to a JPG you can File/Import the image as a Trace image. This can be selected and resized after import, using the right click. Take a known dimension and selecting the two ends of the dimension you can change the image size so that dimension matches - then trace it.

Thanks Allan.  I did all of that but get the error message that there is no geometry and hence no image from the DFX.  However, the DFX is fine in AutoCad.

I converted it to an image finally and did it that way but that really isn't desirable.

The message about no geometry seems to be indicating that there is no 3D to the DXG. When using the wizard I assume you turned 3D off but kept 2D on? Maybe post the DXF so I can try it as it should work. I use Autocae DXF all the time without any problems.

Really there is little difference tracing an image. The only advantage of DXF is that the scale should be correct and the walls will snap to the DXF.

The file is huge for some reason ... 45 Mb.  I did it as a JPG and that will work.

That may explain why TFP wouldn't cooperate!
