Elements list stuck on screen

I have a problem, somehow I have accidentally moved the Elements List / Camera Properties panel to the top of the screen and can't move it back. This means it has stretched horzontally so I see a couple of the groups, a few element names underneath and no image of the object. In the case of the Camera Properties no miniplan with camera and the workspace for the model is stretched across the lower half of the screen being unnaturally stretched at the sides. I have opened and closed the program (several times), tried with HA on and off, switched it off and on in the Settings/Workspace (Info panel) all to no avail, I cannot move it, stretch it, shrink it, or anything and as a result it is almost impossible to work with (or without!).  Last restort is to re-install. Any ideas anyone before I resort to that?

Don't re-install just yet.

Since I have a dual screen PC I moved all my controls to the second screen...I think I remember getting them there by doing a program setup and changed each "palette" from being stuck to a position (pull down menu...same place you can change the palette bar color) and then was able to drag them anywhere ...maybe needed to hold ctrl key down while moving mouse?

see program settings, toolbars, tabbed, set as "normal"

If you can't find the settings....write again and I'll dig deeper for the right words and steps

Sorry Doug, I still cannot find it.
I had been through all these panels but I checked them all again and still cannot see any 'unlock' option. I can see the change bar colour but no dropdown in that vicinity. Tried with Ctrl, Shift, Alt and anything else I can think of but to no avail.

If you can find it again I would be gratefull.

Incidentally I noticed a few things disappear off the tool bar when the Tabbed option is used. I thought it was strange they were not provided - they are but only in the tabbed display. I will list it in the Requests.

Looking at it again, I don't see controls for tabbing/normal for the camera/materials position

But try this: program settings, workspace, and check/uncheck "info panel"...and it turns on/off....hoping maybe it will reset its default position for you??

If you grab the edge of the info panel window, you can drag it wider or narrower, maybe that will help you?


Aha!!!  Here is what to do......

while in full screen mode for the program.....make the 2d/3d display window smaller by clicking on the "restore down" button (far upper right between minimize and close)...the window should be smaller and still inside the program window.

This makes the camera/materials/info window "draggable"....mouse cursor grab the top or far right edge of that window/palette and drag to center of screen for "floating" or to far right to "attach" it to the program window and re-size it to fit automatically.

Actually, you can move the window without making the 2d/3d window smaller....just grab the top or right edge and drag to center of screen and it re-sizes to a floating window....

you probably accidentally dragged it to the top/toolbar edge once before and it stuck there...just drag it to the right window edge.

Thanks Doug for getting back on this one but I have tried all the things you have suggested previously and I have just tried them all again and nothing makes any difference. It definately will not drag whether full screen or otherwise. On my desktop I can move it without any problem.

On the laptop I cannot widen it either as it is full width anway and I cannot lengthen or shrink it. On the Elements list I see 2 groups only and 5 elements under them and no image. It is very hard to work with and the model space is so small also.

I cant understand why it has lockup where it has. HA makes no difference. I can move the toolbars but not the Info Panel. Looks like I will have to reinstall it.

Yes, starting to sound like a corrupt program file somewhere...PC hiccup.

Often many programs fix themselves by "reset" of program options settings....like hold shift key during start of program or delete an .ini file or "reset" preferences file.....but I don't know of any of these for TFP12.

You may be able to "system restore" to a time when it worked and recover that way

otherwise re-install may be the answer

If you look at the elements list the is very fine line from top to bottom between the drawing area and elements area you fine it if you draw the hover the mouse pointer over the field the muse pointer shall change to a double arrow. If you now draw the muse to the right and then the double arrow disappear left click and you got a dark line round the element and camera area now can you drag this area to the place you will have it left or right or floating

Mine is stuck at the top going from the extreme left to the extreme right of the screen - there is no line to drag as it is right at the edge of the display with the drawing area underneath it.  The panel cannot be stretched up or down either and there is no view of the Element either so you have to everything just by the name.

I am going to reinstall as it is impossible to work with it as it is.

I try to duplicated your fault but I couldn't, can it be then you toggle HA on and off it do something whit the settings? Hope it will work out whit a reinstall then.

I have re-installed and everything is back normal. No customised catalog of course but like you I an going to design my own for specific types of jobs.

Were you able to move the panel to sit across the top? I am too sacred to try it after the last incident.

I couldn't move the panel to sit across the top it seems that was a bug to your copy. It is only 3 ways to have the panel left, right and floating. Make sure that the new catalog is in the default folder so the program find it.

If you saved a copy of the old catalog you might be brave and try it in the new re-installed TFP in order to get your special information/settings/models etc. back for use.

Not likely it would cause program to crash and if it does not work you can switch back to the baseline original.

I meant I was scared to try moving the the Info Panel to the top in case it snaps into place there again.  It is impossible to work with it at the top!

After re-installing the program I did try connecting the old catalog but it did not work - it connects OK, no messages or anything to indicate anything is wrong, but it is empty, there are no groups or elements anywhere.

The new one is OK, just all my imported 3DS files and customised elements are not there of course.

Allan, I have make a copy of all defult folders to another location on the disk I have to partion on my disk one for program and one for document and data. To day my raytracing dll file crashed so I have to reinstall TFP. Then the program was installed I change the location to my old copy of defult folder, and all my catalogs and texture work OK.

I have donethe same thing.  Will be keeping a backup in future!!
