Help to put stairs in

I'm new to TFP and are evaluating before I buy. I did try FloorPlan 11 but it kept crashing, the TB11 forum advised me to try TFP so here I am and I'm liking is so far.

I'm designing a two storey house. I have a problem with trying to put stairs into my building. I have added a new stairs type and set the dimensions as required. The dimensions have produced the stairs exactly to the specifications as expected.  But I can't get the stairs inside the building. They appear outside the building and I can draw a room around them, but I can't get them inside the build no matter what I try. I have cut a hole in the second level floor as to the instructions in the help.
I can't drag them or draw them inside the building. I have placed the internal walls in the hall at the correct distance so there is enough room . I have also moved the walls to make the hallway over size. I have checked the setting in the Building location.

I have also cut a hole in the largest room (kitchen) ceiling/floor and tried to put them in there, but they will not move from the outside of the building.

Can someone point me in the right direction please

I don't believe it. As soon as I have finished entering the question on the forum, I returned to TFP to try again and it worked 1st time. I can't understand why it hadn't worked all the time I had been trying for the last 2 hour.  I haven't changed any dimensions or setting. I simply returned to the program, clicked on stairs icon, selected my stairs type and it appeared on the outside of the building again. I then dragged it into place. The stairs fits 100% correctly with the sides just above the 1st floor floor!!!!!
Anyone have any ideas?

My first thought was that you had Collision Detection on (which it is by default). If you did not change anything, that does not explain why you could move it the second time though.  By the way, there is a quick Collision Detection On/Off on the Status Bar.  With that off you can move things anywhere. The right-click Move is also useful.  If you select several things you can use that to move them all at once.

I think you are correct. I have just purchased the full version and activated it, I decided to remove the trial software 1st, clean up the directory and reload TFP in my preferred location/HDD. Once loaded, I then opened the plan that I was playing with in the trail and I couldn't perform the operation again. On reading your reply I turned Collision off and all worked fine.

Most likely what I had done is just after writing the question clicked on the Collision control as I move the mouse from my second screen which was displaying the forum/help to the primary screen which had TFP on.
