Which side of a wall is which?

Has anyone worked out which is the left and right sides of a wall?  It may be obvious when looking at a plan with the walls that run up and down the screen, but what about the walls that run side ways?

I seem to constantly get them wrong and in 3D view it is almost impossible, as the camera could be pointing in any direction, as the left side of one wall becomes the right side if you are looking the other way. I seem to constantly get the colour on the wrong side of the wall.

Trying to cahnge several walls is a disaster usually. It is not possible to select the four walls of a room and change the properties, because if you do and change the Left sides, then you change one wall in the room you want and one in each of the three adjacent rooms (and changing the four right sides changes 3 in the room and one outside of it)!!

I am going to put a request in for changing all walls in a room (and floor/ceiling) as in previous FloorPlan 3D versions - it was MUCH easier.

In the meantime my left hand does not know what my right hand is doing - unless someone can explain it!!

I've experienced the same frustration, Allan.  I've just spent the time doing trial and error, but it's a hobby for me and I'm retired and have the time.  It's another one of those annoying quirks that could be made so much better - like better navigation in 3D mode or program loading with a blank file even though you've set the option not to open a file or NOT HAVING the option to open the last project saved or . . .

I'll vote for the suggested change, too.  Maybe a flyout that will tell you which side is which to be invoked by CTL-w or some such.  Needs to be in both 2D and 3D views.

I'm glad to know it is not just me !!  No one has commented on it before, so I was thinking it was just me that was a bit thick!

I have the same problem/issue but "Help" file explains its all in how you constructed the wall...left to right, up to down determines which is right/left wall side.

but who remembers later which direction wall was originally drawn? and I have not found any indicators on a wall as to which is which side...could be a color or marker...but none = frustration and trial error.

See help file, maybe you will find something I missed.

Even more logical is if you select the wall from the side you are looking at it, should be the side that gets changed in properties...or is noted as the "selected" side of that wall....something to help us from extra clicking mouse.

As you said -who remembers which way the wall was drawn orignally - especailly if you are looking at it in 3D!  There has to be a better way to do this, as it is a time consuming, hit and miss system as it is.

As stated above, if you draw a wall straight up the screen, from bottom to top, the left is on the left, and the right is on the right, however if you draw it from top to bottom, that puts the right on the left, and the left on the right.

Look at it as if you were walking as you draw the wall. left and right are relative to the direction you are travelling in.

Lastly, after a wall is drawn, if you click on it, you will see a green dot at the starting point, a blue dot in the middle, and a red dot at the end where you finished drawing the wall.  So Green is the beginning, and red is the end.

3D view also shows the green, blue, and red indicators.

Therefore if you look at a wall in 3D if the green dot is on your left you are looking at the right side and vica versa. Thanks

Thanks - that does help. Still far from ideal though. Means you have to zoom out to see both ends of the wall on one screen, only change one at a time and do mental gymnastics to orient the brain in the right direction. Hopefully they can come up with some other solutions, especially with multiple wall editing.

This really useful for me too!  I've had the same confusion....

So, if it helps remember, GREEN marks the START of the wall segment, and RED marks where the wall segment STOPS.  Was it intentionally logical??
