and/or how do i put one on the front of the house?

A porch is just another room.  If it is an open verandah, then it is just a roof with posts to 'support' it.  If the roof is different to the rest of the house or is a different height from the ground, then it would probably be best on a Location of its own.  Set the wall height to the roof height from the ground even though you may not have walls as such.

You will find railings under the Railings elements!  (strange place to put them!)
