so i go tools>dimensions>linear dimensions.
put in the measurement.
but do i have to do that every time i put in a bunch of measurements?

You do have Auto Exterior dimensions which can them be adjusted if necessary and the Notation toolbar which makes adding dimensions a single click.

it is the interior measurements i have been putting in by hand.(the ones that did not go in automatically)
i looked in the help file (non pro version) did not see Notation Toolbar.

Adding Text
You can add custom text or pre-defined labels to your drawing. You can select the text style you want to use, and control the justification of the text. Text can be moved and rotated after it has been inserted, just like most other elements.

To add custom text to your drawing:

Select Tools > Text > Text, or click the Text button on the Notation toolbar.

I believe its the only way

I have not tried a copy/paste...it might work, but it may not

I create dimensioned floorplans using a completely different program; Visio, where I have complete 2D control and use that as an image to trace in TFP to get a fast/easy 3D.

Does your version not have the Notation toolbar?  (Settings/Toolbars) If it does, turn it on and you only have to do one click to add each dimension. The toolbar has all the options that you get by clicking Tools/dimensions etc.  I would be very surprised since your version can apply the dimensions themselves, that the toolbar itself is not there.

Yes I have tried almost all the other houseplan programs except the real expensive ones and I have come back to FloorPlan every time. I use it for the 3D photorealistic rendering to demonstrate design and colour schemes and none of the others do it as well as FP's previous versions.  This one is good also but has a few issues that make it a bit fiddly at the moment. When the patch comes it should be better than previous versions.  I have not seen even expensive programs that do better renderings and when you take the price into acoount there is no comparison at all.

It depends what you want to do with it.  TFP is not optimised for plan printing although this version is much better than previous ones.  Its main purpose is easy 3D creation and it does that well and photorealistic rendering which it does well also.

It is a lot more expensive but the TFP parent program Envisioneer I believe is quite capable in this area. There is a trial version.

env express is free but its basically a viewer and has less capability than TFP12....aimed for people who don't own Env or TFP but want to view and move about in 2D and 3D .bld files
