Solid Fill Walls

I require at times to show differing external wall types such as Cavity, Solid and Timber frame within the same construction.  Each in reality have differing thickness and can become internal walls when showing a change in construction over years.
Changing wall properties etc is not a problem, but if I use Solid Fill it automatically shows that Solid Fill Wall in all locations even though not selected for Duplicating into Locations.

Any advice greatly appreciated.

Hi Tony,

Welcome to the Forum.

Solid fill has a global on/off on the Settings/Program Settings/Building Aids menu but you can also turn it off for an individual wall type or a single wall within the plan on the wall Properties/Appearance tab (make sure you select the 2D Structure first before you change the fill setting!!!). You can also change the colour of the fill if you want on the individual wall but as mentioned above you must select 2D Structure.

Hopefully that will solve your problem.

Once again thanks Allan for your efforts.  I understand the global and individual settings, but it seems to show through to the next floor level location and when it does you can not select it to change the setting.  If I go back to ground location I can select and change settings no problem.  The problem appears to be ..It shows through to each location above its original, without doing "duplicate to location" but is none selectable.

Hi Tony,

The 'show through' is intentional but you can turn that off or decrease it by adjusting the Program Setting / Workspace / Location Dimming percentage.  It is there so that you can trace upper floors etc or, as in the case of your thick wall on the Convervatory, you can see to position the two walls relative to each other.  You can only select things on the displayed location.  Generally the locations will not interact, although if you put a window into a wall and there is a wall on another location in the same 'space', the window will cut both walls (otherwise one wall would block the window on the other location).  You will notice I have raised the windows slightly on the Conservatory, otherwise my standard window was clipping a bit out of the 600mm walls on the other location.

Hi Allan,

I understand the dimming etc although that does not help it much as my problem is the solid walling shows on the JPEG I do of each floor.

I come across many houses developed over the years with external walls starting as Solid Build (pre 1900) then extended using more modern techniques such as Cavity Walling and / or Timber Frame.  Many of the early walls are only single story therefore showing through to the Second Floor on a JPEG floor plan is not good. 

Easy answer is to use another descriptive method for Solid Walls, it was just that Solid Fill helped define it much better, as this is all to do with Insulation properties of existing dwellings etc and heating of.

Hi Tony,

You can also turn locations off in the View Filter - this would stop unwanted Locations showing on the JPG.
