messed up floor!

I seem to have tile and carpet in the same place!
i marked out the hall (i assume - seeing the blue lines)

I did not open the bld file but highly suspect you are correct that you have 2 floors in the same place

Most likely caused by program settings "auto insert floor" set 'on' by default and then you added another floor in same location...(I once had 5 ceilings in the same place by mistake, easy to do...)

You can fix by raising the floor desired by a very small amount like 1/64" and it will cover the other floor....or safer solution is to delete all floors (if you use menu and "repair" file, it usually deletes all flooring...or just select and delete each one)...

then insert a new floor in each room -- by room, or by points if you want more control.

i did the repair and still have two floors.

If you intend to use the Materials list you will have to delete the extra floors - otherwise all the materials for all the duplicated floors will be added into the list. (just click and press the delete key). If you are not using the Materils List of course then it probably does not matter.  May use a bit more memory but that is about all.  A request has been submitted for a warning message to alert us to these multiplications of floors and ceilings etc.

ps without putting in new floors how do i say it is tiles in one part and carpet in another etc

The easiest way is to have a tile floor and insert a carpet/rug object from the catalog...there are several or you can import an image and change the look of a standard rug or import a .3ds rug object

You can size, position, rotate a rug and it is representative of real life...a rug on top of a floor

There are other ways too, I read/saw something in the forum a while back...especially if you want to determine which material goes how far at a doorway...or for example having an inset of stone/slate in an entry foyer with oak flooring...a rug with slate as a texture will work.

One of the toolbar icons is the Room Divider. With no floor inserted, just draw the shape you want in 2D plan, switch to 3D, and insert Floor by Room in the separate sides of the room.  If it connects to the walls in two places it divides the wall of ceiling surfaces also.
If you do not connect to a wall them insert the isolated floor first, then the outside, but for this situation the rug, even a 'tiled rug' is easier and as Doug said, is easily  movable.

You should not have to import rugs - there are many already there.

but do i delete the automatic floor before i make tiles in the hall, carpt in the bedrooms etc?

The auto floor puts a floor through the whole building as will adding a Floor By Perimeter. You can turn the auto floor off in Settings / Program Settings. If you add a new floor into a room with the auto floor in place already then you will have 2 floors in the one room.

You will have to delete the auto floor first then just add the floor you want in each room or use Floor By Picking Points to add the SAME TYPE of floor to SEVERAL rooms.

No - if you want same carpet through the rest of the house and just tiles in the foyer, then, as Doug explained earlier, you can just insert the tiled floor By Picking Points and elevate it a fraction so its surface is above the carpet floor or just use a rug with a tile texture.

Of course, if later on you are going to want to try a different carpet in another room, tiles in a bathroom or laundry and vinyl, timber or tiles in a kitchen, then you may as well delete the auto floor (1 click) and insert a floor in each room (1 click in each) - you can them change any room to what ever you want at any time.

I assume this only applies to rooms with four walls?
the hallway of course is all over the place!
