the hole in the wall gang

i need to make a hole in an internal wall
so i made a short wall 4' high.
and two narrow walls on top 2' high
with a full width wall only 2 ft high at the top.
well at least that was the intention!
but when i put them in place in 2d view they vanish.
collision is turned off.
any ideas?

I have not looked at the BLD file yet as I am using my phone at present but it would  be far easier to simply insert an Opening. Just select one the size you require, or Add one and set the size first, them insert it. You can then just move it around like a window.

You can do it using walls but it is a bit messy. If you make 2 breaks (right click) in the original wall, select the centre section and lower the height, you will have an opening to the ceiling. Insert a new piece of wall just a bit longer than the opening alongside the original wall, set its height to the height of the upper section, elevate it to the right height and them use the Nudge key to move it exactly into place.. It works but inserting an Opening is easier and you can also add trim etc if required.

i looked in the help files and found openings in ceilings and floors but not walls.
how do i do this?

Well i put in a hole in the wall and added mirrors, but how do i get the inside walls of the hole the correct color?
i changed everythin in properties i could find.

If the inside of the hole are mirrors then they will always appear black until you render and save an image. The mirrors will then reflect whatever the can like an ordinary mirror. The wall surfaces should change like any other wall but may be dark if not enough light can reach them. You may want to put a light in the hole if necessary.

the mirrors are not at the hole innards.
i even tried the paintbrush thingy.
but they stay pink - like drywall!

a solution I used before in FP10 was to insert 4 thin panels....each the width of the wall, about 1" thick, placed on/in the 4 "walls" of the inside of the opening and textured for the color desired...extending into the opening a very small amount such as 1/64"

alternatively, to avoid dealing with 4 objects alignment, I once made an "insert" that looks like the four thin panels all made from one .3ds object which is very easy to construct in a 3d modelling program....looks like a picture frame that is very thin and wall thickness deep

zoom-in to carefully align the panel insert(s) and they will not be obvious or seen in a render...use nudge as needed and collision allowable.

Obviously I missed the point earlier.  When you mentioned about the "inside walls of the hole" colour, I thought you were talking about the walls within the little 'room' behind the opening.  If it is the inner edges of the wall itself you mean (now that I have looked again at your earlier image I can see they are 'pink') all you have to do is set the Wall Properties component called 'Openings' to the colour you want.  This means the edges or thickness of the wall (set to burgandy in my image).  In the old FloorPlan you could not change this, but you can in TFP.   Obviously this should be set to the same colour as the wall, otherwise it will, by default, show the 'drywall pink' colour. (or have I missed the point again?)

AHA changes the openings colour on the wall changes the colour of the hole i put in - amazing!
