Help with Roof on 'Z' shape building

I have a problem with adding the roof on my existing building plan.

I have completed all the extension design work for my bungalow and printed off the plans, which look very impressive. On the new design I have squared the building up and the roof is very simple and easy shape to complete. The problem that I have is I wish to draw the existing design so I can have a comparable view printed by the same software. The roof section of the existing design is causing me a major headache.

Hi,

Not an easy one!  There are a few ways to do it using separate roof areas but in this example I have just set the heights of the Facia for the different walls. I have only had a guess at them to force the apex to about where you want it and used a long overhang for one section, but if you are trying to replicate an existing building you may have, or can get, these facia heights.  I have attached the model so you can see how it was done.  Hopefully it helps.

Now that you have explained the facia height I can see where I have been going wrong. I will give it a try and let you know how I get on.

After sometime I managed to get the roof sorted. A bit of wall sizing and Fascia adjusting. I also used right click Move and Right Click Stretch functions.

To start I made the roof completely square and got the ridge in the right location by dragging the ridge arrows. I then moved the roof edges with Move and Stretch. This gave me a roof with several levels but a single ridge. I the adjusted the Fascia on the roof edges. This gave me the roof at a single level but not all the external walls had auto adjust to the roof. The wall that didn't adjust I made them fixed size higher than the roof (so the walls could be seen through the roof surface). I then went back into wall properties and selected auto adjust.

Hi John,

It is looking good - quite an interesting exercise I think you will agree but worth the effort when you see things start to take shape as you want them.

I was curious about the white line extending from one side of the model in the image you posted.  It is a piece of the roof soffit as you can see in the image below.  It comes about I think because your roof outline is not actually square in places with the walls. If you select the roof in 2D plan view, you can select the corners of the roof and drag them to the corners of the walls and they will snap on (the cursor becomes a little circle with a X through it when it is exactly over the wall).  If you do this to each corner of your roof it will then be square with the walls and the stray bit of soffit will disappear.  You may have to slightly adjust one section of Fascia as that section of roof drops slightly when the roof is aligned to the walls.

All the best with your project. Post some images when you complete it - it will be good to see how it turns out as it is a bit different.

I will try to adjust the roof but I need to get my diplay problem resolved 1st before I open this project, just in case the program as corrupted the project!

This project is the house/bungalow in its current state before the proposed extension. I just need to have some elevation views to print off before I go to see the planning department. The proposed extension is to square the bungalow up and add two bedrooms in the roof void. This is where I will have the planing issue as I need to raise the roof by 600mm
