Missing Dormer tool

Hello-

I can't seem to find the roof dormers.  I click on the roof icon arrow, but no dormer tools are on the drop-down menu.  I get "roof by perimeter", "roof by picking points", "skylights", and "roof accessories".

Am I missing something?  Has the dormer tool been moved in V14.0.c1.637?

Do I need to reinstall?  If so, will I have to uninstall the program first or will overwriting be okay?

Thanks in advance for any information and advice!

Hi Mike,

Welcome to the forum.

I suspect that the problem may be that you are using Deluxe. I have the Pro version build 637 and it certainly has Dormers in the roof dropdown.

Maybe one of the Deluxe users can confirm before you reinstall.

You are correct Dormers are a PRO only feature.

Ah!  I see.

Okay then. Thanks much.

And thanks for the warm welcome!

Mike,

All is still not lost. You could upgrade to the Pro version but you may still be able to do it in Deluxe, quite easily IF Deluxe has two other features - sloping bottom walls (Wall Properties) and Cut Opening in the roof (Roof right click).

A dormer is just a room at a higher level that cuts a hole in the roof automatically. If you create the room (Dormer) on the Second Floor or a new Location, and slope the Bottom of the wall to the same angle as the roof you essentially have it. The higher Location roof should cut the hole in the roof anyway or use the Cut Opening option if it exists in Deluxe.

If the sloping wall is not there then it can still be done, with greater difficulty, using Triangles. Let us know if the other options do not work and I will explain the Triangles option.

Looks like I may have to get the Deluxe version also, so that I know what is there and what isn't.

Thanks for the workaround tip, Allan!

I tried creating a dormer room and it did indeed automatically cut a hole in the roof.  Then I added a gabled roof to the dormer room I created.  It worked fairly well.

There does appear to be the ability to slope the bottom of walls in Deluxe, also, but, I haven't figured out exactly how that works yet.

I'll keep at it.  It looks like this will work fine for my purposes.

I'm wondering if there is a comparison chart for what is included in the Pro over the Deluxe.  From my explorations within the program, I noticed the Deluxe does not have the shutter tool either, for instance.

Thanks again!

Hi Mike,

I have suggested they put a comparison chart on the website, so hopefully that will eventuate some time. Robert did post a list on the forum not that long ago. Do a Search on Deluxe and you should find it.

Thanks, Allan.  Found Robban's list.  Very helpful.
