Hi Robert,

I am no computer expert, but I cannot think of a reason why a computer issue would break one type of render and not the other but maybe the different processes could utilise different computer resources. Pat may have some logic on that. 99% of the problems in the past as I recall have been corruptions in the model. Hopefully it will be in one of the areas you are deleting!  ;)

You mention that Photoboards and textures are only referenced from your computer - they are not saved with the model. To be sure they work in different situations it is best to save them in the TFP Textures folder - that way it, and you, always know where they are. If you get a new computer, all you have to do is copy the Textures folder over and ALL projects will work.

I'v search and cant find the TFP Texture folder ???

, if I'm still having this trouble after checking, it would have to be the PC ??   ::)

Robert

Nope not necessarily.  When you get to that point, if you can share the .bld file here, others may also try to render...if they all fail then it is the file or TFP code. If it only fails on your PC but is OK everywhere else; then it would seem to be your PC....either h/w or s/w.

Also try on your PC with h/w acceleration both "on" and "off" (two separate renders; or 4 if both basic and advanced) to test for GPU/graphics/video card or its driver s/w.

You will find a list of all the folders where things are saved/referenced on your computer in Settings/ Program Settings / General. You have obviously been there before but just not realised that the list tells you where everything is.

Thanks Allan & Doug,

I figure out how to save  to Texture & How to Save Materials.  ;)

Hi Robert!
If you use the simplify in the catalog you can reduce the file-size but I have not tested how much it will do.

Hi Kajvin, (I prefer your real name but I understand the reason for the change!),

The Simplfy does work and reduces the size somewhat, but does so by deleting some surfaces so you can end uo with holes in the object.

Sometimes holes are generated in vertex models in TFP because the imported (have not seen it yet in TFP made models; but I could have been just lucky) files do not have all the vertexes welded together...and it shows as a high vertex count.

One can export object to a modelling program such as Hexagon (was free for a while, not sure if still free)
EDIT: still free on 7-3-12

and there the vertexes can be welded together as well as surfaces simplified greatly, without losing quality in important areas; thus making the .3ds file much smaller, yet still look/render the same in TFP.

The typical exception is  3D trees with lots of leaves . . . unless the leaves are complex shapes which can be simplified . . otherwise the size comes from lots of individual leaf shapes . . . which also add to render times to calc everything.

I did many "rocks" that way. Got them (including textures) via Google .skp but they were large files causing TFP to slow (I used many); but I overcame the file size issues by "simplifying" the rock files.  For example the bottoms of rocks (sitting on the ground) have no need for a surface so I deleted them. Other surfaces can be simplified (fewer triangles).  Then, all went well in TFP.

This program maybe work to make 3D-people of 2D.
