Glitchy holes in walls?

Hello all, I am having a problem where when I go into 3D rendering, there are massive holes in the wall that are very unsightly. I think it becomes most pronounced when I try to apply materials to the walls. Im not sure why this is happening. Any ideas how I can fix this or stop it from occurring? I have attached images.

Hi there,

This can be one of several issues.
In order to provide a solution, I'll need two things:
1 - can you post the TFP file (*.PRO file)?
2 - Some issues can be related to hardware you are using. Please post any information you have on your system (operating system, video card, etc). The video card specs are very important: I need to know the video card model, memory, if it is integrated or dedicated memory, etc.

Hi Patricia, thanks for the reply and Im sorry for being so late in getting back with you. It is occurring with two of my homes. I have them attached here. Notably, it only happens when I am viewing all the floors, not just one floor at a time.

I am using the mac version. OSx 10.9.5, 2.9 GHz Intel Core i7 with 8GB of memory (came installed, none has been added or modified). Graphics are: Intel HD Graphics 4000 1024 MB

Unfortunately the file is too large to post here.

Hi there,

you can zip the file in order to post it here.
Without the file, I can't help you because I can't see the problem.

Hi there,

I checked your files: they are (very) corrupted.
In order to double check the issues, I opened the files with the Mac version as well as with the Windows version (see attached)

It seems that you have lots of phantom lines. In the images, you can see that, although all the layers are active, the lines are not visible unless you find them and select them manually. Also, you have elevation issues.

Two suggestions
1 - If you started these files by importing a DWG or DXF file, clean the files before you import them.
2 - Copy the valid elements to another (clean) file. If you continue to save the same file, the problem will be worst.

Hi Patricia, I did not start with an imported file. In each case, the files were created from original blank documents from within the program.

After getting rid of the phantom lines in the first house, they holes are still there. The elevation changes are due to the fact that I wanted there to be a window that spans two floors right in front of the stairs. Changing the elevation and wall heights was the only way I could figure it out. I was also having this problem before I did that though.

I dont think the first house I uploaded has those same problems? What can I do to resolve it and keep it from happening again?

Thanks so much

househunter91,

As I stated in my previous post, the file is corrupted and if you continue to save / change the same file, the problem will be worst. Therefore, deleting the phantom lines won't solve a thing, because the file is already corrupted.
Anyway, you have dozens of phantom lines and points (see image #4 attached)

I created 2 images (# 5 and 6) so you can visualize the issue => the image  #5 shows your file in 3D, with the holes.
I selected and copied few walls (just the walls) to a new and clean file (as stated in my previous post) => check the image #6 => the holes disappeared.

In order to prevent these issues, I'd suggest that you check the lines and keep them in a separated layer (Detail for example). Also, it is important that you keep control of the walls in the perimeter and the elevations.
You can change the height of the stairs' wall so they will cover the full height of the space.

If you are interested, there is training eBook that I wrote, exclusively for TFP users: for more info, see the link in my signature below.

Good luck with your project!  ;)

Thanks for the help and suggestions Patricia.

When I tried to delete those lines and copied the entire home and aligned all the levels using ctrl+a and then copy paste into a new blank document, I had the same problem. It only resolved when I deleted the basement layer. Not too sure what the issue is/was in the basement for each of those homes. The only thing I can think of is that the perimeter wall in the basement is 12" as opposed to 6" like on the upper floors. Still not sure. I will continue to brainstorm/trouble shoot.

Btw, is there anyway to adjust the crown molding/basemolding thickness?

Thank you!

Patricia G.

Hi there,

You're welcome! :-)

When you use Ctrl+A you are copying all, including the elements that are corrupting the file. This is why I remarked that I selected and copied just the walls, so the remaining elements won't be present.
Anyway, the wall thickness is not an issue, you can use walls with different thickness, even in the same floor.

Baseboard / Crown Molding => check the available models in the Trim library.

I see. Yes again, deleting the basement layer fixes the problem instantly on both homes so not sure where the issue is.

In terms of the trim library, the in-program trims seems to be pretty short except for the "Standard Base Trim" which has different heights. Is there another trim library you are referring to? I guess I am wondering if I can make what is in the "wall trim - traditional" category go to 8" or 10" as they all seem to be around 3-4" which is pretty short for a luxury home.

Patricia G.

Just an additional note regarding your projects => the exterior walls (all the levels) must conform an enclosed perimeter.

Trims: there are 6" and 8" in the Modern library. Otherwise you can create a trim using the 3D Custom Workshop Power Tool

Hi Patricia, I'm sorry to bother you again but I am back because I am having the same problem. I have used the tips that you gave me earlier and I have not been using any of those "lines" from the detail. Although I am not yet finished, after I added the second story I noticed that the holes were appearing again. Again the glitches only show if I am viewing all levels. Viewing one level at a time is okay. What is going wrong? I have attached a file for you to view.

Many thanks

Patricia G.

Hi there,

Don't worry, you are not bothering!  :)

In order to get a full understanding of the issue, can you post a screenshot showing the problem? I need to see the exact image that you are seeing in your computer.

Sorry for the delay, here are the images

Patricia G.

Hi there,

Thank you for posting the images.
As I stated in my previous post, the exterior walls (all the levels) must conform an enclosed perimeter. If they are continuous, changing the thickness of one of them, the entire perimeter will change. Otherwise, the perimeter is not continuous.
As you can see in the images attached, I changed just one wall, so the perimeter is not continuous, and the fact that the wall is not longer exterior solved the "holes" issue.
I checked the walls and I think that, for some reason, the way that you develop the walls is corrupting the files.

As a test, open one of the sample plans and let me know if you see the holes
